Facebook dating has been launched in the US and the question that arises is how will it make a difference? The whole idea of Facebook dating is based on ‘can deeper data actually produce perfect matches?’

In our point of view, there could be two reasons why Facebook came up with this idea: the first and the most predictable one is to compete with other apps like tinder since there are the number of tinder and similar app users who are dissatisfied by the results they get using dating apps. Knowing how Facebook has more data about an individual than any other app could ever get, they can easily use it their advantage to help their users find the perfect match they’re looking for. And the second reason here could be, the facts show that 44 percent of users ages 18 to 29 deleted the app from their phones in 2018. It’s a known fact that most users are shifting towards Instagram, Twitter, etc. and Facebook is moving towards its downfall. So, the idea of adding dating features to the app is expected to work in their favor.

Facebook dating comes with many perks, Facebook will use a unique algorithm to match you with potential dates, based on “dating preferences, things in common, and mutual friends.” You will also be able to find romantic interests via shared Groups and Events. It’s integrated with Facebook groups and events. If people in a group you’re in have created Dating profiles or if they’re planning to attend the same Facebook events, they might show up in your matches. For example, if you’re attending a concert, you’ll be able to “unlock” your profile, so that potential matches who have said they’re going to the same show can see it. And comparing it to tinder we all know most of the apps are dependent on Facebook, Tinder’s reliance on Facebook became painfully clear a month ago, when the dating app temporarily stopped working because of changes Facebook made to its data-sharing policies. So imagine, using a dating app that isn’t dependent on any other app but is a whole sea in itself with the billions of fishes for you to catch.

Facebook dating is free and doesn’t include any advertising, and the company says it never will. You don’t need to download another dating app, you can enroll within the already installed Facebook app. Facebook dating allows complete freedom to create two profiles: a normal one and a dating one. With that it provides utter privacy from the general account and the dating account, you can even hide your ‘friends list’ if you want to, or can be visible to few friends who you choose to meet as potential romantic partners among their friends of friends or completely outside of your existing friend network. Facebook dating, unlike other dating apps, doesn’t come with the ‘swiping’ option, the company says ‘it’s more about conversations’. Another major feature that differentiates Facebook dating from other dating apps is that it will be integrated with Instagram stories. The idea behind this integration is that for surely knowing whether you want to go out with someone you’ve to at least see them 3-4 times beforehand and Instagram stories are the most secure way to do that, they call this the idea of progressive intimacy. This will help people say more than just words: you don’t just tell people about your interests, you can actually show people your interests. Facebook dating is all about authenticity and giving its users the most realistic experience they can ever get from any dating app.

All these features are just the tip of the iceberg if Facebook dating becomes a success. It’s no doubt that Facebook dating will be bringing the biggest competition for the other dating apps if launches globally and can easily take place of tinder and other dating apps.
